I am interested in community ecology, especially as it applies to marine conservation and resource management. For my Masters I studied coral species coexistence on Fijian coral reefs. I am currently studying extinction debt, which is how many more species live in an area than that area can support. I am using protist microcosms to better understand how future extinctions can be predicted by prior extinctions. Eventually I would like to tie in ecological modeling to my research to help connect theory and empirical research. I would also like to increase my exposure and that of other biological scientists to how research informs and drives policy and vice versa.
