Lawrence Boyd, Ph.D., Executive V.P. of R&D, Spinal Elements

Join to hear Dr. Boyd discuss the nuances of a biomedical engineer’s career paths in business and academia and the challenges and opportunities of these diverse work environments. Dr. Boyd has moved from the business world to academia to founding several start-ups and back to a private equity-funded venture here in Atlanta.
 

Dr. Lawrence Boyd is the Executive Vice President of R&D for Spinal Elements, a medical device firm. Prior to that position, Dr. Boyd was a Director for Medtown Ventures, an Atlanta-based venture investing & consulting firm. He is an international leader in medical device innovation, with over 60 issued U.S. patents for medical devices and related procedures. He held the position of Associate Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship and Research Commercialization while at Duke. Dr. Boyd received his BS degree in Mechanical Engineering and MS degree in Bioengineering from Clemson University. He earned a Master of Engineering Management degree from Christian Brothers University. He received his PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Duke University.
